Sapa Textile Tour
What is cultural identity? How do textiles and fabrics communicate identity? What designs and production methods exist in Sapa valley and how do they differ?
Sapa Textile Tour
The mountain town of Sapa lies at 1500m above sea level in the north west of Vietnam close to the borders with China and Laos. It is home to 29 different ethnic groups, the largest being Hmong.
This tour is designed to introduce students to the fabrics and textiles produced in Sapa valley and explore the different techniques used as well as how these textiles reflect cultural identity. The tour will involve hiking to different villages, taking part in workshops and meeting local experts along the way. Students will also attend a context setting session in Hanoi and finish up with a final presentation where students will share their own new designs.
All our trips can be adapted or amended to meet the needs and curriculum requirements of students (IB/GCSE or other).
